About

A writer's companion app.

Authorlytica is a writing tracker with a personality. It's built on the principle that writing should be fun, and that you don't have to do it alone . Built and maintained by one person.

The philosophy

Why?

I love human story. Storytelling has been a part of humanity since before we could write. Then we invented this thing called 'writing', and now millions of people struggle to get their ideas, characters, and worlds onto the blank page.

Around five thousand years after the first cuneiform tablet was written, a group of people thought it would be fun to all write together in November; this was called NaNoWriMo, and it motivated thousands through community, badges, and a daily habit.

I was one of those people sharing memes on the forum while hitting my daily wordcount goal. It was a great big fun community that sadly lost its focus and collapsed, leaving its members looking for something new to fill the void.

Authorlytica, shockingly, is not the only writing tracker. Many options are available. It's not hard to show a graph based on wordcount; you can do it yourself in Excel. You don't even need another app.

Hey! Why are you still reading? Maybe you see something in Authorlytica that you can't get from a spreadsheet, something that feels... different?

Maybe it's the pretty visualizations, the community of friends you can build, the celebrations when you write a lot, and the encouragement when you didn't feel it, but still showed up.

Maybe it's the colorful theming, a breath of fresh air in a world of corporate white-blue apps that turn something beautiful and creative like the art of writing into another chore.

Maybe it's just a feeling of intuition that there's something special about this app that over 300 people have already discovered. A little gem on the internet.

Authorlytica doesn't want to be your all-in-one writing environment. It tracks your wordcount and everything else is built to support that task, with the goal of motivating you to write more.

As far as I'm concerned, every word this app can get out of you and onto paper is a victory.

The app is free, by the way. There is a premium version that supports this work, but everything you need to track, visualise, and share your writing sessions is included in the free version. You can get your data out anytime.

Every writing session you log is a cookie in your cookie jar. That cookie jar is proof to yourself that you're a writer. You've come this far, what's a few more words? And a few more after that? Until someday (or find out the exact date in the app) you finish your book.

It's my dream that one day a great writer says that Authorlytica helped them in finishing their manuscript. Perhaps that is you! Hello! Go sign up quickly and make my dream happen.

Adam Rendo, creator of Authorlytica

The Author of Authorlytica

Who?

My name is Adam Rendo. I am a European indie developer, a reader, and a mediocre writer. I build Authorlytica by myself, with my bear hands grrr. I've participated in NaNoWrimo twice, written some short stories, and started some longer ones.

I'm not the best at writing, but what I am good at is software, I've been writing code since I was 11. So I see it as my mission to support writers greater than myself with my own talents, in the pursuit of great human story.

I believe that if we put real thought, attention, and care into what we do and build, it will ripple out and cause compounding positive effects for the people around you, your community, and eventually the wider world.

Apart from this project and my full-time job, I like to experiment (read: procrastinate) building other apps, consume good creative work in the form of books, film and music. I also like to draw. You can see what I'm doing on my studio website.

Values

What makes Authorlytica unique.

The (secret) recipe of what gives Authorlytica its unique and unmistakable tasty flavor. Five special ingredients.

Focus

Authorlytica does one thing: it tracks your writing. It's not a todo-list, it's not a word processor, it's not a piano either.

Every feature in the app serves one purpose: getting you to write more and finish what you start. The streaks, the personal records, the social features, all of it.

Free Forever

Authorlytica has a premium version to support the app's hosting and its continued development. But all tracking features are fully accessible and free to anyone that signs up.

I want to give everyone in the world the core features of this app, even if they can't afford it. Some of the greatest stories come from struggle.

Community

It's important to not go at this alone. With Authorlytica, I want to connect writers through their activity. It's fun to do stuff together and surround yourself with like-minded people.

Authorlytica has opt-in social features so you can share your writing sessions with your friends.

Joy

Striving for excellence in storytelling and art, perfecting the craft; who says this has to be a joyless grind?

Creating is play, it's fun. It's joy. Who are the most creative people among us? Children. Why not put that childlike wonder and joy into a writing companion app, instead of writing-themed accounting software.

I try to add whimsy into the app whenever possible, without distracting from the premise. Little jokes in the notifications? Sure! Hidden easter eggs? Of course! Colorful themes? Amazing! Around here it's okay to be a little silly.

Privacy & Data

Your data is yours, and you can take it with you whenever you want, or delete it altogether. I find it very scummy when apps try to hold your data hostage so you don't leave. Just make the app good enough so they don't want to leave...

Authorlytica only tracks how much you wrote, never the content of what you wrote. And all social features have an opt-out option, so you can choose if and what you want to share.

All data is governed under GDPR, kept in Europe. Your identifiable data such as your email and name, and any intellectual property like project names and descriptions or session notes are never sold or shared with third parties.

Stuff to keep in mind.

Development Team

Adam Rendo (me) is working solo on this while also having a full-time job. There is currently no plan to expand the team.

Progress

Authorlytica went online in August of 2025. The changelog shows what shipped and when. At the moment there is no public roadmap.

Financing

The app is fully owned by Adam Rendo (me). The premium version is currently the only source of revenue. The would cover server and development costs.

Use of AI

While I believe that creative writing is a uniquely human activity, AI is used in my research, software development, and marketing. But not right here, look: jakdlsfj. I am Human!
